#2186 - 35¢ Dennis Chavez
The first native-born Hispanic elected to the United States Senate, Dennis Chavez was a self-made man. Chavez attended school until financial hardships necessitated that he work. Chavez first found employment delivering groceries, but continued going to school at night. While working as a clerk for the Senate in Washington, D.C., Chavez was able to attend Georgetown University Law Center part-time.
