#2754 - 29¢ Cherokee Strip Land Run
On September 16, 1893, more than 100,000 people jumped at the chance to secure a piece of the Cherokee Strip that had been recently re-purchased by the US Government. The piece of land that led to the largest land run in US history, 60 miles wide by 225 miles long, was purchased in 1889 for $8,595,736 and is now part of Oklahoma. Much pressure was put on the Cherokee people to sell because of their alliance to the Confederacy during the Civil War. Scott 2754 Cherokee Strip Land Run
