#2767 - 29¢ Show Boat - booklet single
Showboats were large barges that featured a central stage where guests were entertained as the boat was pulled slowly up and down the Mississippi River by a tugboat. The 1921 Broadway musical of the same name followed the performers and ship hands on the showboat "Cotton Blossom". A critical and financial success, Show Boat departed from many light-hearted musicals at the time as it tackled themes of racial prejudice and tragic love. Scott 2767 Show Boat
