#2976 - 32¢ Blonde Carousel Horse

Order Pre-cut Mounts 25 x 40 mm - 40 per pack

Forms of the Carousel, or merry-go-round have existed since at least 500AD where riders sat in baskets that rotated around a central pole. By the 17th century carved animals and horses were introduced, but it would not be until the early 20th century that the "golden age" of carousels would arrive. During this time there were approximately 4,000 carousels in operation, and for the first time, technological advances allowed the intricately carved figures to move up and down as the carousel spun. These same technological advances would give rise to faster and more complex rides such as rollercoasters, which was the beginning of the end of the "golden age" of the carousel. However, you can still find carousels in operation today, children laughing and giggling, bright lights flashing as they ride intricately carved horses round and round the merry-go-round.
