Picturing a scene that could never happen - Henry Hudson's 1609 ship "Half Moon", Robert Fulton's 1807 steamship "Clermont", and an Indian canoe in the Hudson River, this stamp commemorates the 300th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River and the 100th anniversary of Fulton's steamship. The 1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration was a grand festival celebrating these anniversaries and technological advances including an airplane flight by Wilbur Wright and a visit by the RMS Lusitania.
