The Chippendale style is characterized by solid mahogany wood, intricate carvings, wide lines and different styles of legs. The American Chippendale chair was an adaptation of the colonial style artisans of the popular style. Mainly based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Newport, Rhode Island, these manufacturers revisited the Chippendale-style elements to create a smaller, more functional version of the design.
