# 547 - $2 Franklin - carmine & black
The $2 Franklin, originally intended as carmine and black, were mistakenly printed in 1918 in orange-red and black. Rather than waste taxpayer's money, displeased officials decided to use the stamps anyway. By 1920, dwindling supplies enabled a new press run, and the Franklins were finally printed in the originally intended carmine and black colors.
