#5720 - James Webb Space Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope is the largest optical space telescope ever developed and launched into space. Launched in 2021 and placed in orbit about 1 million miles from earth in 2022, it's designed to perform infrared astronomy exploration with little or no interference from light found in the visible part of the spectrum. The telescope’s ability to provide astonishingly high resolution images and greater sensitivity lets it peer at stars and other cosmic objects that were too faint or old to be seen even with the Hubble Telescope. It can look deeper into the cosmos than any other telescope ever designed, capable of capturing light and viewing celestial images formed billions of years ago. The data provided by this telescope will help expand our knowledge of galaxy and star formation as well as also letting us study our solar system, planetary systems around other stars, and the origins of life.
