#853 - 3¢ NY World's Fair: Plate Block

The 1935 New York World's Fair was planned by a group of retired New York City policemen who wanted to create a large international event to lift the city and the country out of the Great Depression. The event was held over the course of two years and featured elaborate exhibits, famous speakers, and exotic new structures. The stamp depicts the Fair's main buildings the Trylon and Perisphere, which were constructed for the event. Scott 853 NY World's Fair
