One of the Ten Great Buildings, the Great Hall of the People opened in Beijing's Tiananmen Square in 1959. It is used for legislative and ceremonial activities by the government and is the meeting place for the Chinese Parliament. Its large auditorium is frequently used for concerts. (China PRC #880)
