Haiti Coat of Arms - 1896 Mint Never-Hinged Issue
Discovered by Columbus on his first voyage, the island nation of Haiti was later colonized by France and under the leadership of General Toussaint Louverture was the first Caribbean nation to gain independence. This early issue depicts the national coat of arms – a palm tree flanked by two cannons, flags, and several symbols of freedom. (Haiti #40)
