New Brunswick #8 - 1860 Unused Issue

This beautiful 1860 issue features a portrait of Queen Victoria painted by Alfred Chalon in 1837, one often used on early British Colonies stamps. It was rushed into production when an outraged public discovered that Postmaster General Charles Connell attempted to picture himself on the original 5¢ stamp and they demanded both his resignation and that his portrait be replaced by that of the Queen!
