Batum British Occupation - 6 Mint Imperfs from 1919-1920

At the end of World War I, this port city on the Black Sea had broken away from Russia during its civil war and was briefly controlled by the Ottoman Empire, then occupied by British forces until 1920 when a treaty gave the city to the new Republic of Georgia. These imperforate stamps issued during the short British occupation picture a native aloe tree and are denominated in the Russian currency in use at the time. (Batum #17-19, 58, 61-62)
