UNITEA West New Guinea #1a-19a - 1962 Complete Mint Never-Hinged Set of 19
After 12 years of conflict between the Netherlands and Indonesia over the ownership of the territory of West New Guinea, the United Nations stepped in, creating a U.N. Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA) to govern the territory while the conflict was resolved. In 1963 the territory was ceded to Indonesia. During the U.N. administration, Netherlands New Guinea stamps were overprinted UNTEA for use during the few months of negotiations. (UN/West New Guinea #1a-19a)
