Lucille Ball (1911-1989), known to her friends and fans simply as Lucy, was a regular fixture on American television for nearly three decades. Starring in 5 series between 1951 and 1986, it was "I Love Lucy", which ran from 1951 to 1957, that made her a television superstar. She also appeared in a popular radio series and in more than 70 movies opposite leading men such as Bob Hope, Henry Fonda, and her husband Desi Arnaz. Behind the scenes, she was the first woman president of a major Hollywood production company, Desilu Studios.
