#4530 - (44¢) Indianapolis 500

Driver Ray Harroun and his famous Marmon “Wasp” raced into post offices all across the country to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. Harroun’s initial win in 1911 caused some controversy, as he was the only driver without a riding mechanic who could monitor oil pressure and warn the driver of incoming traffic. Instead, Harroun outfitted the car with a rear-view mirror, a device of his own invention that is now standard in all automobiles. The race is considered one of the three biggest events in motorsports alongside the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Scott 4530 Indianapolis 500
