#4566S- (44¢) Romare Bearden - Set of 4

Using materials such as foil, cut paper, and fabric, Romare Bearden (1911-1988) transformed the art of collage into a forceful means of expression with mainstream appeal, and in doing so framed the complexities of the African-American experience in a broad historical and cultural context. Through his work he sought to express the humanity he felt was lacking after serving on the European front lines during World War II. Bearden drew inspiration for his work from a variety of sources including religion, philosophy, and jazz music. The four selected works for this set are; Conjunction (1971), Odysseus: Poseidon, The Sea God—Enemy of Odysseus (1977), Prevalence of Ritual: Conjur Woman (1964) and Falling Star (1979).
