#5064 - (47¢) Repeal of the Stamp Act

In 1765 Britain passed the Stamp Act, requiring American colonists to pay a tax on paper materials. The act was wildly unpopular among colonists. Most considered it a violation of their rights as Englishmen to be taxed without their consent, with the slogan "No taxation without representation" heard throughout the colonies The reaction by the colonists led to Britain repealing the bill in 1766 with approval from the king.
