This historic reproduction of the first two US stamps was created over 75 years ago for the Centennial International Philatelic Exposition in New York City in 1947 and marked 100 years of U.S. postage stamps. To perfectly re-create these Franklin and Washington designs, new engravings were made based on the original century-old dies. The stamp colors were changed to blue and orange to avoid confusing the centennial issues with the originals.
