1947 CIPEX Sheet FDC - #948

To celebrate 100 years of U.S. postage stamps this historic sheet of the first two US stamps was created for the Centennial International Philatelic Exposition (CIPEX) in New York City in 1947. To re-create these Franklin and Washington designs, new engravings were made based on the original century-old dies. The stamp colors were changed to blue and orange to avoid confusing the centennial issues with the originals.

This First Day Cover, postmarked at the exhibition, features an attractive illustrated cachet along with the exclusive "Centenary International Philatelic Exhibition Station" First Day commemorative cancel. Cover cachets will vary. US #948 First Day Cover
