#2414 - 25¢ Washington Inaugural
The President is the highest elected official in the United States. The Chief of the Executive branch, the President is charged with executing the laws of the United States. Although George Washington is well-known for being the first President, he wasn't elected until 1788 -- five years after the United States was recognized as a country! During the interim, the "President" was the presiding officer of the Continental Congress, a position that held little real power. Scott 2414 Washington Inaugural
