#2617 - 29¢ W.E.B. DuBois
Along with Booker T. Washington, William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was the seminal figure in African American Civil Rights. The first black man to graduate from Harvard University, he later earned a Ph.D in History from that same institution. DuBois opposed Booker T. Washington's idea of social integration between whites and blacks. Instead, DuBois advocated for greater political representation for African Americans and the creation of a black elite.
