#4386 - 61¢ Richard Wright

Delving into the socio-economic issues of the time, Richard Wright’s (1908-1960) works discuss racism, politics, and the struggles of life in general from an auto-biographical standpoint. Many of the characters in his stories were based on Wright’s own personal experiences; from segregated schools, joining the Communist Party, and life abroad. Through a life fraught with hardship and discrimination, his haikus would suggest that he found peace near the end of his life, as they often spoke of coming to terms with death, loss, and loneliness. Wright’s works, though controversial at the time, are considered to have helped change race relations in the mid-20th century. Scott 4386 Richard Wright
