Gwen Ifill (1955-2016) was an award-winning, ground-breaking American reporter, television newscaster, and renowned writer. She was one of the first African Americans to hold major roles in print and major broadcast journalism organizations, including NBC, PBS and the New York Times. During her career she covered seven presidential campaigns. She was also the first African American journalist chosen as moderator for the 2004 and 2008 vice presidential debates.
