Austria Liberated - 1945 Complete Mint Set of 23

On April 27, 1945, three days before the fall of Berlin, Austria declared its independence from Germany, which had incorporated Austria into the Third Reich at the start of World War II. As with Germany, Austria was divided into four occupation zones by the Allied powers until a permanent government could be established. Picturing an eagle with a broken chain on its legs and holding the Soviet hammer and sickle, this set was issued in July 1945 for use in the Russian occupied zone. Austria #423-54
