Russia made history a second time in August 1961 when Gherman Titov became the second man to orbit the earth. Orbiting over 17 times, he was the first man to spend more than a day in space, proving that it was possible to survive in the weightless of space. This pair of stamps, issued within days of this historic flight, picture Titov and his Vostok 2 rocket. Only a small amount of the printing was kept in imperforate form. (Russia #2509-10 imperf)
