Printed by the U.S. Government, these ten stamps were intended to be used after the Allied liberation of France. Instead, with the success of General de Gaulle’s Free French movement, these stamps showing the Arc de Triomphe were given to the Free French to use in liberated areas as Allied forces advanced.
