Ukraine First Issue - 1918 Imperf Complete Mint Set of 5

During the anarchy following the 1917 Russian revolution, the Ukrainian People's Republic was established. Its first stamps, issued in July 1918, were designed by two noted Ukrainian artists, Anton Sereda and Heorhiy Narbut, head of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and one of Ukraine's most celebrated graphic artists. The designs feature the trident, the national symbol of Ukraine, the allegorical figure of Ukraine, and a peasant representing Ukraine's primarily agricultural economy. The People's Republic would be short lived, in 1921 the government collapsed and its leaders fled the country, allowing the establishment of a Bolshevik-backed government and its eventual incorporation into the Soviet Union.
