#2853 - 29¢ Ethel Merman

Order Pre-cut Mounts 41 x 31 mm - 40 per pack

The queen of musical theatre during the 1930s, Ethel Merman's powerful voice was honed from years of singing live on stage, without a microphone to amplify the sound. Self-taught, it is rumored that George Gershwin told her never to take a professional singing lesson after hearing her perform in "Girl Crazy". Merman signed with Warner Bros. and began staring in films and musical comedies while still performing live theatre. Ethel Merman's final on screen appearance was in "Airplane" in 1980 where she had a cameo role playing herself. Scott 2853 Ethel Merman
