The famous big band and blues vocalist, Jimmy Rushing was known for a booming voice that could soar above the large ensemble of a big band. Ranging from baritone to tenor, Rushing was a member of a variety of bands that toured the West and Midwest over his 48 year career. A testament to the strength of his music career, just before his death in 1972 his final album "The You And Me That Used To Be" won Jazz album of the year by Downbeat Magazine.
