#2972 - 32¢ Marblehead, Lake Erie - bklt

Order Pre-cut Mounts 25 x 40 mm - 40 per pack

In 1819, Congress realized the need to construct navigational aids for ships crossing the Great Lakes. The Marblehead Lighthouse, situated along the rocky shore of Marblehead, Ohio was the first of these beacons. Traditionally lighthouses were maintained by keepers, who lived in or next to the lighthouse, but in 1952 the Marblehead Lighthouse was outfitted with an automatic beacon. Today, the site is open to the public during the summer and features tours and a picnic area. Scott 2972 Marblehead, Lake Erie
