#4493 - (44¢) Kansas Statehood

The first Forever Stamp dedicated to any state, this stamp also marks the eighth stamp honoring the state of Kansas. When the territory opened for settlement in 1854, it became known as Bleeding Kansas as abolitionists from New England clashed with the pro-slavery settlers from Missouri, with the outcome being Kansas joining the Union as a free state. Almost all of Kansas's land is devoted to agriculture with corn, cotton, soybeans, sorghum, wheat, and livestock being their primary economic products. Scott 4493 Kansas Statehood
