Kwanzaa is an annual celebration held from December 26 to January 1. Meaning “first fruits of the harvest” in Swahili, the holiday of Kwanzaa began in 1966 to help African-Americans reconnect with their ancestral culture and heritage. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa are dedicated to a different principle, such as unity and faith among others, which are meant to assert the ideas of identity and improvement, both in one’s self as well as in the community.
