#5212 - (49¢) Andrew Wyeth - Sheet of 12

American Realist painter Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009) is considered one of the best-known U.S. artists of the mid-20th century. His only formal art lessons were given to him by his father, N.C. Wyeth, who fostered an inner self-confidence to follow one's own talents, and inspired his son's love of rural landscapes, sense of romance, and artistic traditions. His mastery of watercolor, drybrush, and egg tempera, as well as his regionalist style gave the world famous works like Christina’s World, Winter 1946, and Raven’s Grove. Among the numerous awards and honors received, Andrew Wyeth was the first painter to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the first living United States artist to be elected to Britain’s Royal Academy. The release of this sheet of 12 coincides with the 100th anniversary of Wyeth’s birth. Scott 5212 Andrew Wyeth
