#2768 - 29¢ Porgy & Bess - booklet single
Conceived by the late, great composer George Gershwin, Porgy & Bess is an American Folk Opera that deals with African-American life in South Carolina in the 1920s. Eventually adapted into a film in 1959, critics panned the production for not being faithful to the original opera and changing the score to make it more like a musical. By 2001 Porgy & Bess was designated as the official opera of South Carolina. Scott 2768 Porgy & Bess
