#4136 - 41¢ Settlement of Jamestown

A triangular stamp for a triangular fort, we honor the first English settlement of America with this unique issue. Settled over 400 years ago, this stamp features the ships “Susan Constant,” “Godspeed,” and “Discovery” that carried the first settlers to the new world. Though it has seen many hardships, the fort was already rebuilt and repaired, in a way symbolizing that despite adversity, the settlers and their descendants would always rise to the challenge and persevere. Today the Jamestown settlement exists as a historical museum, including a recreation of the original James Fort and replicas of the previously mentioned ships. Scott 4136 Settlement of Jamestown
