Marsh Is.#241 Invasion of Finland - 1989 Imperforate Mint Issue

November 30, 1939 After consolidating his territorial gains in Eastern Europe, Premier Joseph Stalin launched the Russian Army and Air Force against Finland. The Finns valiantly maintained their defenses at the Mannherheim Line while agile and daring Nordic ski detachments penetrated far behind enemy lines, disrupting the enormously powerful Russian army. On March 13, after 104 days of fighting, the outnumbered Finns negotiated a treaty with Russia in which it surrendered the entire Karelian Isthmus plus a large area in central Finland. The Russians also obtained a 30-year lease of the Hangoe Peninsula to build a military base.
