#2856 - 29¢ Billie Holiday

Order Pre-cut Mounts 41 x 31 mm - 40 per pack

As with many other African-American musicians of the early 20th century, Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Harris) rose to stardom from abject poverty. Holiday would become a powerful influence in pop music, but her career was not without its ups and downs. Battling drug addiction and alcoholism, she was arrested multiple times, but was still able to sell out Carnegie Hall just after being released from jail in 1947. Despite releasing many records and singles, bad contracts provided her with little royalty money, and Billie Holiday died in 1959 with only $0.70 in her bank account. Scott 2856 Billie Holiday
