The most famous confectioner in history, Milton Hershey built an empire by exposing the masses to milk chocolate at an affordable price. Pioneering mass-production techniques, he built the largest chocolate manufacturing plant the world had ever seen. Rurally located so he would have easy access to a supply of milk required to produce his famous chocolate, the area around the factory would eventually grow to become the town of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Later in his life, Milton become involved with philanthropy, creating the Milton Hershey School Trust Fund, founding the Penn State teaching hospital, and funding local theatres, museums and gardens.
