#1899 - 5¢ Motorcycle - coil
The earliest motorcycles were developed in the late 19th century. Inventors tinkered with both petroleum and steam-powered engines, but the first commercial bicycles adapted their designs for the new internal combustion engine. This stamp features a "diamond framed" engine with a design common to post-World War I Indian or Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Scott 1899 Motorcycle
