The first in a series of six stamps commemorating the Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo, New York, this 1¢ stamp features the steamship "The City of Alpena", which plied the waters of the Great Lakes. In those days, the steamers carried bulk loads of cargo -- wheat from the Midwest, ore to be processed and coal for fuel. The Pan-American Exposition series, America's first bi-colored commemoratives, showed the world many of the technological advances achieved by the turn of the century. They were on sale at post offices for only six months, during the dates the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo was open.

While this unused 1¢ issue may have minor imperfections such as a short perf, a small thin, or a straight edge, it will be a welcome addition to your collection - and you can save $15 off our regular price!  And as always, your satisfaction is guaranteed. (US #294)
