With the combination of new construction technologies and the new availability of resources previously set aside to support the Allied war effort in Europe, modernist architecture became the most popular style as society moved away from the traditional neoclassical style. The use of steel, glass, and reinforced concrete created towering skyscrapers and uniquely shaped buildings straight from the imaginations of some of the most brilliant architects of the mid-20^th century. The Chrysler Building by William Van Alen, I.M. Pei’s National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Phillips Exeter Academy Library in Exeter, New Hampshire by Louis I.
