James Maury “Jim” Henson (1936-1990) is best remembered for the creation of the beloved Muppets characters, as well as the iconic cast of Sesame Street. Henson, inspired by early television puppets, believed that it was possible to give the characters more life-like movements, and constructed characters from fabric-covered foam rubber rather than the carved wood from which other puppets were made. Henson crafted characters for television commercials and several popular programs before being asked to create a cast for the children’s educational show Sesame Street. The mid-70s saw the creation of The Muppet Show, Henson’s landmark achievement. Jim Henson’s iconic characters captured the attention of millions of viewers around the world, and continue to do so through The Jim Henson Company, managed by his children. Scott 3944 Jim Henson
