Joining the Legends of Hollywood series, James “Jimmy” Stewart (1908-1997) has a knack for bringing the character he portrayed on the silver screen to life. His work is recognized in such films as “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and “The Philadelphia Story.” On top of his awards in the film industry, Stewart also holds the distinction of being the highest-ranking actor in military history, earning the rank of Brigadier General while in service during WWII. He was promoted to Major General (Ret.) by President Ronald Reagan in 1985 while receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. To this day he is considered the third greatest male screen legend, outshined only by Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant.
