Thomas H. Gallaudet was a pioneer in the education of the deaf, founding the American School for the Deaf in 1817. Gallaudet was unsatisfied with the education of the deaf in America and traveled to Great Britain and Paris to learn new methods of education for the hearing impaired. 1861 Thomas H. Gallaudet
